Gwen, the Dancer: A Mucha Crossover

One of my all-time favorite artists is Alphonse Mucha. His beautiful compositions demand everyone's attention and inspire me greatly. Despite being known for posters, he also painted with different techniques with these pieces being every bit as stunning as his provocative starlet advertisements. He was versatile and a master of any medium in which he worked. His artwork is truly so beautiful I audibly gasp when I find references to it in modern fan-art for games like Final Fantasy XIV. In fact, I had seen this happen so often that I decided to take a whack at it myself.

It started with getting in-game screenshots of my character, Gwen, at my g-pose studio. (G-posing is an in-game setting that players can use to adjust lighting, colors, and poses of their characters.) It’s sort of like in-game photography that players can use to convey storytelling, role-play, or just as a creative outlet.

Seeing as this was mainly just a study on how I could apply Mucha’s principles to my artwork I took the pose from the third picture (above) and went with it. Yes, that does involve tracing, but this was never meant to be something that I sold for profit, just a form of practice.
