Blazing Aura

I realized that I enjoyed running with the freedom that Battle Casters card art assignments allowed me. Wanting to try out a new style, I explored the ‘Blazing Aura’ theme. The in-game prototype showed an explosion so I tried my hand at conveying just that. Of course, before starting any art I collected references and explored different composition and color options. This was a pretty fun piece that gave me the chance to explore another art style.

Rekindle

After working with the team on my first cart art (Ground Smash) I was prompted to take the same approach for “Rekindle”, a card that featured an infernal elf other than Vesta. To start, I created a character that could be Vesta’s cousin, a beautiful male elf, later using the rough portrait as a reference for the Infernal Elf worldbuilding. With some composition sketches set in place, I ventured into some color sketches before fully diving into the card art. Later on I helped in developing a visual representation of an in-game buff icon. I loved making this card.

I finally got to contribute some card art to Battle Casters with this project. The theme was ‘Ground Smash’ and it had to include an Earthen Nomad character. Wanting to exercise my character design chops, I created a female Nomad (hesitantly deemed as Jorg’s cousin). As a very hands-on artist I took videos so I could fully understand the type of pose I was aiming for. This included jumping on the floor, and getting a 360 view of my final pose. I really wanted to nail the impact felt by the effect of the card so before I did anything serious I whipped up some figure and value studies. Seeing as this card art didn’t have to be stylized I really wanted to push myself.
